Outstanding Contribution Award
We are honoured to present Clio Barnard with this year’s Outstanding Contribution Award. As a director, writer, and video artist, Barnard has continued to demonstrate that she has one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary British Cinema. Her films, from gritty drama The Selfish Giant, to this year’s CFF opening film I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning, are often set against the diverse towns and landscapes of Northern England, telling stories which explore the crackling intensity of relationships. In Clio Barnard’s cinema, loyalty and love is always underpinned by the impacts of socioeconomic and cultural influences in working-class communities.
