The Infamous Countess Erzsébet Báthory (Isabelle Huppert), her loyal maid and her wistful nephew Rudi Bubi bend time and space in their quest for a mystical tome that threatens the vampire realm. As they find themselves wandering from the historic sights of present-day Vienna and into Bohemia, a police inspector and enthusiastic vampirologists follow their trail, slowly realising just how much buffoonery hides behind their menacing gothic facade. As in her usual baroque campy style, legendary queer filmmaker Ulrike Ottinger intertwines belly laughs, eroticism and outrageous fashion choices in this delightfully spooky romp.
