Corvette (Keke Palmer), Mariah, and Sade are “boosters” who shoplift from trendy fashion chain Metro Designers and resell their items to make ends meet in the California capitalist dystopia of the Bay Area. Their antics are soon acknowledged by the nefarious visionary designer behind the brand, Christie Smith (Demi Moore), who ignites a pitched battle with the endearing outcasts in which the “integrity” of high fashion, worker conditions in Chinese factories, and global media discourse are all at stake. Boots Riley’s (Sorry to Bother You) sophomore feature pulls no punches as a gleefully wacky heist satire.
