Synopsis

In the dark depths of the ocean, where few of us will ever venture, beautiful and strange creatures thrive in a hidden world. As the threat of deep-sea mining looms, a group of marine biologists races to discover what truly lies beneath the waves. In this gorgeous and haunting documentary, filmmaker Eleanor Mortimer invites us aboard the vessel as the scientists uncover astonishing new species and share in the collective excitement of their discoveries. Battling harsh, remote weather and facing backlash from environmental activists, the film questions the ethics of the project and asks: can humans and marine life ever truly coexist?
