In The Company of Women
Original Title: Las Buenas Compañías
Silvia Munt recounts the times in the late seventies when abortion was a criminal offence in Spain, having as a background the real story of several women from the north of Spain who were prosecuted for having undergone abortions. Set in the Basque country, the film shows the emergence of the feminist movements in Spain, shortly after the death of the dictator and after years of oppression from a highly traditional patriarchal society. It does this by focusing on two characters, Bea and Miren, from very different social backgrounds, who forge a strong bond.
