Synopsis

Havana’s Tricontinental Conference in 1966, a landmark event for Global South anti-imperialist solidarity, is the only natural starting point for Michèle Firk‘s story, and that’s precisely where filmmaker Laura Cazador begins. Firk was more than a political filmmaker. Her commitment to liberation struggles took her from the Algerian War’s underground networks to the depths of the jungle during Guatemala’s guerrilla struggle. Through an imagined correspondence between militant artists and astute uses of rich archival material, Cazador weaves together Firk’s forgotten legacy as a moving tribute to a moment in time where cameras and guns were synonymous as tools against oppression.
