Hitchcock himself called it “the first true Hitchcock movie”. Subtitled “A Story of the London Fog”, and inspired by the case of Jack the Ripper, The Lodger is a suspenseful serial-killer film that foreshadows all of the major themes of Hitchcock’s subsequent work. The story of its making has also become a major part of the Hitchcock legend.
It was shot and first shown in 1926, and to mark its centenary we are presenting it at Cambridge Film Festival with an intro from Henry K. Miller, author of The First True Hitchcock – and an outro revealing a shocking hidden twist.
