Synopsis

In a small village in rural Nepal wild elephants roam the dense surrounding forest. Pirati is the matriarch of a Kinnar community, an ancient South Asian third gender identity deeply rooted in folklore and tradition, but she dreams of a so-called “normal” life with the man she loves. Suddenly, one of her daughters disappears, and she’s confronted by the tension between her own desires and the sense of responsibility with her chosen family. Abinash Bikram Shah’s directorial debut is both a heart-wrenching story of maternal devotion and a tactful celebration of unsung queerness.
