Indigenous women living in Mexico’s forests have been guardians of the mycelium world for centuries. But their knowledge is now threatened by modernity, deforestation, and community loss. This poetic sci-fi documentary follows two young indigenous scientists conflicted between their ancestral connection to the mycelium world, and Western scientific methods. As they work to preserve precious knowledge, they learn from their grandmothers the wisdom encoded in an ancestral language most members of the community no longer speak. It is an immersive and playful portrayal of women who dare to reimagine the future while fighting to preserve the past.
