DIRECTOR: Franz Osten

WITH Himansu Rai, Seeta Devi, Sarada Ukil, Rani Bala

This visually ravishing account of the life story of the Buddha was the first collaboration of Munich born director Franz Osten and Bengali actor producer Himansu Rai. Alarmed by a prophecy that his son and heir will one day renounce the throne, King Suddhodana surrounds the young prince with riches and beautiful women and shields him from all knowledge of human suffering. Shot entirely on location at historical sites in India, this spectacular co-production blends documentary-style realism with fairy tale enchantment.

With live accompaniment by John Sweeney.
