Octave (Pete Doherty) is a young and beautiful husband who, after witnessing his wife (Lily Cole) cheating on him, sinks into despair and decadence. After living the life of a libertine in early 19th century Paris for a while, the death of his father takes him to the country where he falls for the young and benevolent widow Brigitte (Charlotte Gainsbourg). But can he really trust her? Does love exist? Is there a future for their liaison? This love story, filled to the brim with visual decadence and a sort of punk-nostalgia, at times reminds of Sofia Coppola’s MARIE-ANTOINETTE and is a daring attempt to evoke the times of the libertines by pairing Pete Doherty – real-life 'libertine' – with Charlotte Gainsbourg – herself a child of a so-called hedonist.
