When filmmaker Fredrik Gertten made his 2009 documentary BANANAS, recounting the lawsuit between 12 Nicaraguan plantation owners and the giant Dole Food company, he had no idea that it was only the start of the story. Angered by a film they hadn’t yet seen Dole Food released a cease and desists letter to the producers, removing the film from the LA Film Festival and beginning an eight month process of corporate bullying and media spin designed to discredit the film and its message. This powerful documentary reveals precisely how a multinational will stop at nothing to get its way. As Dole's public relations company puts it, "It is easier to cope with a bad conscience than a bad reputation".
