The Bengali Detective

CFF-15 certification
DOCUMENTARIES / UK PREMIERE
United Kingdom, 2011. 95 mins. English
Q + A session with director Phil Cox

CFF are delighted to host the UK premiere of the Sundance and Berlin hit doc THE BENGALI DETECTIVE. This entertaining and moving film follows gumshoe detective Rajesh Ji as he deals with all the jobs that the corrupt, lazy police force can't handle themselves - and what marks him out from other maverick crime fighters is how absolutely real he is. THE BENGALI DETECTIVE is a beautifully shot cinematic docudrama set in the metropolis of Kolkata. And in true Bollywood tradition, our detective is not content with putting his feet up on his desk at the Always Agency in between cases - he'd rather be busting a move on TV.

PLUS Q&A with the filmmaker after the Thur 22 6pm screening.

Trailer:

"The Bengali Detective is the story of a private detective who chases criminals… and when he has the time, he pursues stardom. This portrait of a working cop with dreams is an absolute delight and a vivid look at crime-fighting in a big city." Screen International

"It's no small thing that The Bengali Detective has more to say about true love than most romantic films ever will achieve." Hollywood Reporter
