The end result is a powerful, transgressive, nihilistic and profoundly disturbing treatise on the nature of free will. Something of an enfant terrible who once stated an ambition to make a film more violent than STRAW DOGS and SALO combined, Noé is also a director of real intelligence and insight; IRREVERSIBLE is perhaps his masterpiece.
