+ Q&A with Director Verena S. Freytag
Berlin tattooist and single mother of three children, Pelin (Maryam Zaree) collapses when one day her problems grow into a mountain: her son eats her boyfriends drugs and ends up in hospital, social services threaten to take away her children and she loses her job. Burnt out, she is offered to go on a recovery programme for single mothers by the seaside. At first she is unruly and causes trouble until she meets the very different Christa (Kratochwil) and slowly a friendship develops. Director Verena S. Freytag's award winning script portrays a slice of life that could be taken from many existing biographies in Berlin. At its heart, BURNOUT is a coming of age story about an immature woman who is learning how to become a grown up, and a mother.
