Fighting against the censorship of the National Party during the era of apartheid in South Africa, free-spirited poet Ingrid Jonker lives life to its fullest with a small circle of like-minded artists, including writer Jack Cope. After her mother passes away, Ingrid comes to live with her father, a right wing minister for the National Party. Their already difficult relationship is further challenge by political discord, driving father and daughter further apart.
