Two in the Wave (Deux de la Vague)

PG certification
DOCUMENTARIES
Director: Emmanuel Laurent.
France, 2010. 91 mins. with English subtitles.
Documentary TWO IN THE WAVE focuses on the volatile relationship between the two men at the forefront of the highly influential French New Wave, Jean-Luc Godard and Francois Truffaut. United by their passion for film, the pair began their careers writing for renowned film journal Cahier du Cinema. When Truffaut made the shift to filmmaking with THE 400 BLOWS, he encouraged Godard to do the same, offering him the screenplay for BREATHLESS. Godard?s later plunge into radical politics separated the pair considerably and the film explores such aspects of their relationship through ?letters, personal archives and films of the two directors, [taking] us back to a prodigious decade that transformed the world of cinema.?
