The Hunter (2010)

15 certification
Director: Rafi Pitts.
Germany, 2010. 90 mins.
Iranian director Rafi Pitts cements his reputation from IT’S WINTER with this drama-cum-thriller targeted squarely at Iran’s rulers. Recently released from prison, Ali (Pitts) works the night shift as a security guard in Tehran, relishing his time with his wife Sara and six-year-old daughter. Against the backdrop of the tumultuous recent elections the pressures upon Ali become unbearable as his wife is accidentally killed and his daughter disappears. Losing it he snaps and shoots two policemen. Fleeing to the northern forest he is captured by two police officers. Resigned to his fate, Ali watches quietly as the arguing policemen lose their way in the woods. Situations complicate and the line between hunter and hunted becomes difficult to define...
