In 1960 Abebe Bikila sprinted into international acclaim when he became the first African athlete to win gold at the Olympics. The great Ethiopian marathon runner set a new world record darting through the streets of Rome! Bikila then repeated the feat at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, making him the first marathon runner to win the title consecutively. Sadly Bikila's career as a runner came to an abrupt end in 1969, when he was involved in a severe car accident that paralysed him. This unique and elegant hybrid of autobiography, biopic, and documentary demonstrates the undying passion of the human spirit in the face of extreme adversity.
