The Art Of The Mid-Length
SHORTS
Germany/UK/USA/Nigeria, 2010.
95 mins. English
Size is not an issue for Cambridge film festival as we do appreciate works that dare to break the '15 minute rule'- in other words - festivals' favourite (maximum) length.
Liberated from those taboos, we are showcasing four excellent mid-flight films that champion profound storytelling and defy time restrictions.
GISBERTA (24 mins)
Director: Lisa Violetta Gass (Germany)
As a tender friendship blossoms at an orphanage between 14 year old Elischa and the cleaner Gisberta, the jealousy of the other boys becomes dangerously brutal.
WHITE BUFFALO (26 mins)
Director: Gabriel Pac (UK)
Told in parallel strands of past memories and present reality, WHITE BUFFALO is the story of a soldier on a quest for redemption, who returns home to a past life that no longer wants him.
FAMILY JEWELS (20 mins)
Director: Martin Stitt (USA/UK)
Carol, a mother and a US soldier, is about to deploy in Afghanistan. Kurt, her husband and their two boys, Ethan and Wyatt, are determined to give her the best farewell evening she could want, but things don't quite go to plan.
BRAIDS ON A BALD HEAD (25 mins)
Director: Ishaya Bako (Nigeria/UK)
A day in the life of Hauwa Bello, a hairdresser from Northern Nigeria. The film follows her during the course of her day where an experience with a new mysterious neighbour questions her sexuality but enables her to ask for better in her loveless marriage.
