Dancing Dreams
GERMAN FILMS / UK PREMIERE PREMIERE
Director: Rainer Hoffmann, Anne Linsel.
Germany, 2010.
90 mins. with English subtitles.
Revel to the power of dance as the world-class choreographer Pina Bausch prepares a group of youngsters for a performance of her work Kontakthof. Bausch was one of the leading figures in German modern dance and this documentary captures her year-long project with forty teenagers aged between fourteen and eighteen. Bausch once said "I'm not interested in how people move; I'm interested in what makes them move." Filmmakers Anne Linsel and Rainer Hoffman chart her interactions with the young cast, mostly amateurs recruited from schools in Wuppertal, and the youngsters' increasing confidence in using their bodies to perform on stage. DANCING DREAMS also unwittingly documents one of Pina Bausch's last major projects. Sadly she succumbed to cancer in June 2009.
