BOB THE BUILDER: RACE TO THE FINISH
With cup cakes being passed around the cinema, and a winged fairy introducing the movie, it could only mean that the Cambridge Family Film Festival is fully underway. Today’s presentation is the return of a favourite character for all ages, Bob the Builder, and his team of building machines.
It’s all happening in Sunflower Valley; not only has it been announced that the first ever Sunflower Valley Games will be held, but its Bob’s job to build the stadium. Also, Wendy has been recruited into competing in the top event, so she can’t help due to a heavy training schedule. It’s a lot of work for the team, so much so that Bob calls in Gripper and Grabber, two bigger and faster machines from the city, to build at record speed. But they have never been to the country before and keep disappearing to have fun. Will Bob get the stadium built in time?
Certainly a film that kept the kids engaged from start to finish, especially a tension-filled ending that had the audience slowly rising from a gripped silence to exploding shouts. There are also some clever, more grown-up moments to offer – the highlight being quite a funny parody of CHARIOTS OF FIRE. No surprises and little new to offer fans of Bob, but well-made and enjoyable, the film is exactly what it should be: a fun-packed adventure for the whole family, with one of the UK’s most well-known characters.
