Can Go Through Skin (Kan Door Huid Heen) + Q&A

Esther Rot's outstanding film from the Netherlands tells of the claustrophobia and trauma experienced by a young woman (a brilliant performance by Rifka Lodeizen) after she is attacked in her Amsterdam flat. She leaves her urban lifestyle behind and buys an abandoned house in the Zeeland countryside – but rather than being haunted by this uncanny building, she literally haunts the house herself, hiding in its corners and disappearing in cupboards, while getting further and further drawn into violent, REPULSION-like fantasies. Only a friendly neighbour, it seems, can help to fix her cracks and get her back to some semblance of reality. Carefully crafted and rooted in an organically developed soundtrack that reflects the emotions and moods of the young woman, CAN GO THROUGH SKIN is stylish, contemporary filmmaking at its best.
